Stepfather Of Missing PA Teen Enci Aubrey Wu Charged With Harassment Of NJ Sex Offender: Update

The stepfather of missing 14-year-old Enci Aubrey Wu, who has been searching for her for over two months, has now been charged with harassment, authorities confirmed.

John F. Gehrmann III, 44, currently of Easton, PA, and originally from Kearny, New Jersey, was charged with three misdemeanor counts of harassment for allegedly targeting a New Jersey sex offender online in connection with Wu’s disappearance, according to Pennsylvania State Police and court documents. However, advocates for Wu’s family say the charges misrepresent the situation and that Gehrmann was acting in an attempt to protect his missing stepdaughter from a convicted sex offender.

New Court Documents Reveal Further Details

Gehrmann's harassment campaign specifically targeted four adult members of a separate family, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Seth A. Heffner, who filed the charges, detailed in the affidavit of probable cause obtained by Daily Voice.

Gehrmann made repeated threats against the family, accusing them of involvement in Wu’s disappearance on Feb. 23, 2025, according to the court document. In the 'AubreysNOTfound' Facebook group, Gehrmann allegedly posted identifying information about the family's business, which led to threats against the family and their livelihood.

Palmer Township Detective Brian Strong previously sent multiple warnings to Gehrmann, urging him to stop the online harassment. In a letter sent on Feb. 17, 2025, authorities warned that Gehrmann’s actions were putting individuals at risk and hindering the investigation into Wu’s disappearance. An FBI agent also instructed him to stop, but police say Gehrmann continued his behavior.

In a recorded video, Gehrmann allegedly made further threats, stating "you are going to be hunted by us, and we are going to come after you" and "everyone will know you are a kidnapping monster." Authorities say his comments directly endangered the Fenstermacher family, including a 13-year-old child.

Additional Disturbance Reports

The Wilson Borough Police Department reports show Gehrmann has also been involved in multiple disturbances related to his search for Wu.

On Jan. 16, 2025, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of 2nd St after Gehrmann claimed he had received an anonymous tip that his missing stepdaughter was seen at that location. Gehrmann told police that Wu had allegedly been at the residence of an individual known to deal drugs. Officers did not find Wu at the scene, and there was no evidence to confirm she had been there.

Later, on March 5, 2025, Gehrmann reported to Wilson Borough Police that a woman, the individual he had accused, and her daughter were allegedly posting about him on Reddit and Facebook, making him fear retaliation. He expressed concern that these posts could lead people to show up at his home and that he was receiving messages from unknown individuals. Police documented the incident and advised him to contact them if further issues arose.

Clarifications And Allegations Against Zaire Gibson

Posts from a nonprofit, Child Safety Soldiers, further fueled tensions surrounding Wu’s disappearance. A recent statement made claims about a registered sex offender, Zaire Gibson, allegedly being involved in her disappearance. The group issued warnings to those they believe played a role, writing: "Your time is running out. We will not stop. We will not rest."

The Pennsylvania Megan’s Law Public Report lists Zaire Gibson as a Tier 1 offender, with a registered address in Easton, PA.

Zaire Gibson had allegedly been soliciting Enci Aubrey Wu online for months, Shane Coyle, founder of Child Safety Soldiers, "a nationally recognized nonprofit that collaborates with law enforcement to track and expose child predators," told Daily Voice on Friday, March 14. Gibson allegedly sent explicit images, attempted to meet her in person, and used social media to groom her, violating the conditions of his Pennsylvania Megan’s Law offender registry, Coyle explained.

Coyle, who personally confronted Gibson at his Easton, PA residence as part of an investigative effort, claims that forensic phone data retrieved from Wu’s accounts confirms months of predatory communication from Gibson. Despite these allegations, police have not formally charged Gibson in connection with Wu’s disappearance. The most recent charge is a child porngraphy offense in 2024. Daily Voice has requested more information from the court on that case and has not heard back as of publishing.

Criminal History Of Zaire Gibson

Zaire Shamar Gibson, 22, of Easton, PA, was convicted of child pornography in Lehigh County, court records show. He pleaded guilty in a negotiated deal and was sentenced to 4 to 23 months in confinement, followed by probation. That case originated from an arrest by Allentown Police Department on Aug. 25, 2023.

Gibson was convicted of Sexual Abuse of Children on Jan. 24, 2024, stemming from an offense committed on Jan. 1, 2022, as detailed in additional documents. Court filings confirm that the victim in this case was a minor.

He was also in the registry for possession of child pornography with an offense date of Nov. 11, 2022, and the same conviction date as the previous offense.

Gibson was added to the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law registry on Sept. 9, 2024, as a Tier 1 offender by court order.

While online groups have linked Gibson to Wu’s disappearance, authorities have not publicly confirmed any connection between him and the case. The Easton Police Department has been credited by Child Safety Soldiers TEAM for their work on the case, but Palmer Township Police have repeatedly cautioned the public against misinformation.

Police Warnings And Charges

Palmer Township Police claim that they have repeatedly instructed Gehrmann to stop his actions, warning that his online behavior was creating legitimate safety concerns for the victims. Despite these warnings, Gehrmann allegedly continued making threatening posts and videos.

As a result, he was charged on Feb. 27, 2025, with three counts of misdemeanor harassment (Communicating Lewd, Threatening, etc. Language), according to Lehigh County court records.

His case is being handled in South Whitehall Township, where the alleged harassment occurred. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Jacob E. Hammond.

Gehrmann is represented by Alexandria J. Crouthamel, Esq., of Bethlehem, PA.

Meanwhile, the search for Enci Aubrey Wu continues. Wu has been missing since Jan. 10, 2025, and was last seen in South Whitehall, Lehigh County, on Jan. 11, 2025, where she was allegedly seeking transportation to leave the area, according to police.

Palmer Township Police, along with Homeland Security Investigations, Bethlehem Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, continue to investigate her disappearance. Authorities maintain that there is currently no evidence of foul play but are urging the public to come forward with any relevant information.
